Conscious Movement Matters

“Movement has the capacity to take us to the home of the soul, the world within for which we have no names. Movement reaches our deepest nature, and dance creatively expresses it. Through dance, we can gain new insights into the mystery of our inner lives. When brought forth from inside and forged by the desire to create personal change, dance has the profound power to heal the body, psyche and soul.” - Anna Halprin

What Is Somatics?

The field of somatics has developed over the last century through a process of inquiry into how consciousness inhabits the living body. The term is derived from the word "somatic" (Greek "somatikos", soma: "living, aware, bodily person") which means pertaining to the body, experienced and regulated from within. According to Thomas Hanna, who first coined the phrase, "somatics" is the study of self from the perspective of lived experience, encompassing the dimensions of body, psyche, and spirit.

Somatic movement describes movement that is sensed and shaped from within, rather than from an external source. (ISMETA)

The Rhythm Way Dance Journey with Laura

In the western world, we have been taught to experience physical sensation as “less-than”, but the body is gateway to soul. The Rhythm Way is a guided movement and musical experience that will take us into sensation and our deep imagination. Through movement flows, deep imagery, and dance, this archetypal journey will guide us into a wild, playful, and free sense of self on the level of the body and beyond. Come prepared to move, to connect, to laugh, to play, and to drop into the innate intelligence of your body.
